3.jpgK G Kannabiran, the veteran civil and democratic rights activist passed way on 30 December 2010 at around 5 pm in Hyderabad at his residence. He served the democratic rights movement in the country for several decades. His death is a great setback to the democratic and civil rights movement in the subcontinent. 

Shri  Kannabiran was elected as a member of the All India Council of the Lok Raj Sangathan at its Second Convention in 2005. He worked as President of Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee (APCLC) for fifteen years and National President of PUCL for ten years.  At the time of his passing away he was the President of Committee for the Release of Political Prisoners (CRPP), Andhra Pradesh chapter. He worked and built several democratic organizations and movements in the past five decades. He was a tireless advocate of people’s rights.

Shri Kannabiran employed his in-depth knowledge of constitutions of the world governments and the history democratic rights movements worldwide for the benefit of people. His public speeches and writings were an inspiration for thousands of democratic rights activists in India.

He successfully used existing laws to save the people who were victimized by the same laws. He argued hundreds of PIL cases and scores of conspiracy cases and won justice for the victims and the people at large. 

In his death we have lost a friend and guide of our organisation. Lok Raj Sangathan expresses its deep condolescences to his family members and others near and dear to him.
