In the wake of the call for nationwide road blockade given by farmers organisations seeking repeal of the three new farm laws, several farmers’ organisations in Thoothukudi district of Tamilnadu staged a rasta roko campaign expressing solidarity with the agitation in New Delhi. The campaign was conducted under the leadership of the Communist Ghadar Party of India, Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India (Marxist).
On 6th February, hundreds of farmers gathered in front of the Kovilpatti main bus stand and conducted the agitation. The campaign started at 12 pm. The police arrested 68 agitationists, including 7 women farmers. The farmers came from various blocks of the district.
