Text of the letter to the Prime Minister of India
To,
Shri Narendra Modi Ji
The Prime Minister
Govt. of India
Subject: Response letter to the statement given by PM in London regarding doctors of the India.
We, RDA AIIMS, New Delhi state that the comment made by you on doctors of our country in a foreign land is highly disappointing and disheartening. You have made a generalised comment on the doctors that they are promoting branded medicines and are governed by pharmaceutical company.
For your kind attention we would like to say that pricing of essential medicines and implants are not in our hand and we would only prescribe medicines which are available at government hospitals/medical shops. It is the responsibility of the government/drug controller body to keep a cap over the pricing so that the same can be made available for our patients.
Medical profession and health care is already facing challenges in form of poor infrastructure and scarcity of doctors, needless to say about the growing trust deficit of patients over doctors, as exemplified by recent increase of incident of violence against doctors. We as a fraternity are working hard to rebuild the trust and regain the respect from the patients and public, such kind of black and white comment, from the head of the country, would only broaden the gap between patient-doctor relationship, which is not a positive thing for healthcare of the country.
RDA AIIMS strongly condemn your critical remarks made over our profession and dignity. We expect some more sensibility from you and the government in the matter of healthcare and patient-doctor relationship. Thanking you
