On behalf of Makkalatchi Iyakkam, Thiru Kabilan spoke in the protest demonstration. He stated that communal violence has been part and parcel of the rule of Indian state since 1947. Legacy of Divide and rule of British colonisers were followed by the Indian state. That is why, none of the communal criminals of 1992-93, 1984 or 2002 were ever punished till date. It shows that people do not have power in their hands. We need to work for empowerment of people to put an end to communal violence.

Activists of Makkalatchi Iyakkam distributed a statement to participants.

All over Chennai many similar protest demonstrations were held by various organizations. Mases of people attended these programs.
