Dozens of organisations marched under the initiative of Lok Raj Sangathan from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar on the 32nd anniversary of genocide of thousands of Sikhs in Delhi and other places. A public meeting was held in Jantar Mantar. Among those who participated in the march and the public meeting were Communist Ghadar Party of India, Social Democratic Party of India, Sikh Forum, Jamaat e Islami Hind, All India Forward Block, All India Progressive Women’s Association, CPI(ML) New Proletarian, Association for Protection of Civil Rights, Citizens for Democracy, Nishant Natya Manch, United Muslims Front, Welfare Party of India, Popular Front of India, INSAF, All India Majlis e Mushawarat, Student Islamic Organisation, Purogami Mahila Sangathan, AIFTU (NEW), Bhagat Singh Ambedkar Student Organisation, Youth Awakening Movement Jan Sangharsh Manch Haryana, Mazdoor Ekta Committee, Hind Naujawan Ekta Sabha, United Sikh Mission, and others.

The protest demonstration reverberated with slogans like, “The guilty of 1984 must be punished!”, “Unite against state terrorism!” and “An attack on one is an attack on all!”.

Speakers after speakers pointed out that the massacre was state organised and constituted state terrorism. This is clear from the fact that for 32 long years none of the organisers of the genocide have been punished by the Indian state although different governments have come and gone at the centre more than 10 commissions of enquiry have been set up and given their reports.

Speakers were unanimous that people cannot afford to forget such crimes committed by the Indian state and infact need to unite together to oppose all acts of state terrorism and attacks on people’s rights.
