Chief Guest S Raghavan, President of LRS says “ensuring Sukh and Suraksha for all is necessary to ensure peaceful society with human value”.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Shaneen Bagh organised a “Talk on Peaceful Society with Human Value” in Jasola Vihar, New Delhi on 4 September 2016. S Raghavan, President of Lok Raj Sangathan was invited as the Chief Guest, and the meeting was presided by Mohamad Jafar, Member, Central Advisory Council, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.

The meeting was addressed by participants from various professions including doctors, social activists from the community, who stressed the need building peaceful society based on human value. Wasiq Nadim Khan, Public Relation Coordinator, explained the purpose of the campaign for peace and human values being conducted by JIH.

Elaborating on the concept peace and human value S Raghavan said that it is important to guarantee “sukh” and “suraksha” – prosperity and security, for all citizens of the country, which is a precondition for peaceful human existence. Elaborating the concept as it finds reflection in the text and scriptures of various civilisation and culture, he said that this treated comprehensively in the Mahabharta in the ansushasan parva, where Bhishma on his bed of arrows, expounds the rights and duties of raja and praja. It is the duty of the raja to ensure Sukh and Suraksha to its praja. If the raja fails in his duty or refuses to do it, it is not only the right but duty of the praja to remove the raja and establish a system that will ensure the fulfillment of sukh and suraksha. He further said that the present system of governance not only does not provide Sukh and Suraksha, but on the contrary targets and attacks people based on their religion, caste, language, creates an atmosphere of anarchy and violence. It is a well-known fact that religions are a body of knowledge and understanding which also includes the knowledge about statecraft, and put stress in peace, harmony and human values.

He stressed that what is happening in India is not an isolated case or incident, but part of a global pattern where the US is trying to establish its hegemony in all parts of the world and particularly in west Asia and is attacking people of this region in the name of religion. India is also following this pattern and systematic attacks are taking place against the people of minority faith, particular the Muslims.

Narrating the case of Babri Masjid, with facts and figures he demonstrated that this was part of the conspiracy by the British to divide the people of Hindu and Muslim faith so that they cannot wage united fight against the colonisers. The Indian government after 1947 continued with this policy and used it to manipulate people and set them against each other. From the time the British created this dispute through concocted documents and media till the demolition in 1992 it was all a well planned and executed activity.

He congratulated the organisers for arranging such dialogue and suggested that this should lead to formation of organisations and structures that will struggle to provide and ensure Sukh and Suraksha to all people.

Mohamad Jafar, Member, Central Advisory Council, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, addressing the gathering said that all the speakers stressed the point that the history of communal violence started after the 1857 great Ghadar when the British found it necessary to divide people on communal basis so that they are not able to unite against the common enemy – the British. The same policy has continued and has been intensified and perfected further.

This talk was part of the community dialogue undertaken by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind across India during the past fortnight from 21 August – 4 September 2016, to build peace and harmony amongst the communities.
