A huge protest march and rally was organised by JNU students union and others in New Delhi on 15th March to oppose the targeting of university students. Several thousand people, mostly students, took part in the “People’s March to Save Democracy” and marched from Mandi House chowk to the Parliament.
Prominent among the slogans were “Repeal the fascist, anti-people sedition law!”, “Oppose attacks on the right to conscience!”, “Fight crackdown on universities!”, “Release Umar and Anirban!”, “Release Prof Geelani!”, “Resist politically motivated enquiry and victimisation of JNU students by the administration!”, “Stop witch-hunt of JNU students!”, “Drop all sedition charges!”, “Justice for Rohith Vemula; Enact ‘Rohith Act’!”, “Stop caste discrimination in universities!”, “Down with state terrorism!”.
Apart from the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union, other organisations that took part in the protest included Student Federation of India, All India Student Federation, All India Students Association, All India Democratic Students Organisation, Chhatra Janata Dal United, Campus Front of India, Democratic Students Federation, Democratic Students Union, Inquilaabi Mazdoor Kendra, Krantikari Yuva Sangathan, Lok Raj Sangathan, National Students Union of India, Parivartankami Chhatra Sangathan, Prahaar, Welfare Party of India, Vikalp, and many democratic individuals.
