New Delhi: On the occasion of 23rd anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition on December 6, more than two dozen civil groups and political parties have planned a joint protest rally to press the demand for punishment to those who were involved in the demolition of the 16th century mosque in Ayodhya town of Uttar Pradesh on December 6, 1992.
Addressing a joint press conference here on Friday, leaders of these groups said in the present climate of systemic hate-mongering and communal conflict the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary becomes extremely relevant. They underlined the fact not a single person who was involved in this crime was punished till date that shows the culpability of the State in the demolition of the historic mosque.
“6 December,1992 and the communal violence that followed killing Muslims in Mumbai and other parts of the country, continues to haunt the country – not as a memory of the past , but as painful reality that has been repeated over and over again- in Gujarat 2002, in Muzaffarnagar 2012, as well as in Trilokpuri, Bawana and other parts of Delhi in 2014, in the episodes of communal and sectarian violence in Odisha and Assam , in the continued denial of justice for the genocide of Sikhs in 1984”.
Lok Raj Sangathan president S Raghavan said it is the need of hour that all should stand united against State organized communal violence and terror. Calling an attack on one is an attack on all, he said the Lok Raj Sangathan has jointly organized the protest rally with other organization which want build a society where rights of all are protected.
Prakash Rao, leader of Communist Ghadar Party of India (CGPI), alleged that State was involved in the demolition of the historic mosque as Hindutva groups had no gut to raze the mosque to ground in Ayodhya.
“It was undeclared State policy of using communal terror for political purpose as not a single guilty of the Babri Masjid demolition, the Sikh massacre, the Nellie massacre or other massacres was brought to justice”.
He stressed the need of launching a concerted struggle for changing the whole State system as ruling classes have developed a vested interest in it.
Terming the demolition as blot on the Consititution, Advocate Shahid Ali Khan, who heads the United Muslims Front, said the Supreme Court ruled for status quo in the Babri Masjid case but not single violators of this ruling was punished nor the government restored the mosque.
Describing the Babri masjid demolition as a conspiracy to capture power by the saffron groups, All India Muslim Mazlis-e-Mushawarat leader Abdul Rasheed Agwan said even the Liberhan Commission has concluded that power was the theme of the conspiracy of Babri Masjid demolition.
Since in our country, majority of people are illiterate and gullible, certain political parties whip up communal issues as they believe that it is the easiest way of capturing power, he added.
Echoing his views, Welfare Party president Dr SQR Ilyas said they will continue to fight till the guilty are punished and mosques is rebuild at its place.
On the occasion, leaders appealed to people to join the demonstration from Mandi House to Jantar Mantra and public meeting there.
Meanwhile, six Left parties – CPI, CPIM, CPIML, RSP, Forward Bloc, and SUCI (C) also announced a protest march on this day saying Sangh Parivar is trying to hijack the democracy.
In a statement, the organizers said, “It’s up to us, the citizens of India to declare that we will not allow the bullies and goons of the Sangh Parivar and BJP to hijack democracy and secularism!”
Left Front march will start at 11 am (Sunday) from Mandi House on 6th Dec and will culminate into a public meeting at Jantar Mantra near the Parliament House.
