Guest teachers of Haryana have been on a dharna for the part many days at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, protesting against dismissal of 3581 guest teachers. Teachers from various zones join the demonstration and sit on dharna taking their turn. So far teachers from Gurgaon, Hisar, Ambala, Rohtak, Kaithal, and other zones have participated in the relay hunger strike.
While participating in the relay hunger strike and demonstration in Delhi they have continued to organise many events in their respective districts and capital. They organised demonstrations at the state assembly, pressing for their demands and gheroed various legislators. They also gheroed residences of various ministers and their offices and handed their charter of demands. In the meanwhile it is being reported that due to shortfall of teachers in school, clerks and assistants were seen teaching the students. This shows the pathetic condition of the education system in Haryana.
The teachers have been continuing their struggle since 17th June. On 11th July 2015, thousands of teachers demonstrated at Haryana Bhavan in Delhi. Since then the teachers have been on a dharna. Despite apathy of the government, the enthusiasm has not waned a bit. Teachers have declared that they will continue with their struggle.
The central government had passed a legislation in Parliament in 2009 according to which the student teacher ratio must be 30:1 and more teachers must be recruited accordingly. But the government of Haryana has been working towards increasing this ratio. It has stopped making any new recruitments. On the other hand teachers hired earlier are being dismissed. To arrive at optimal student to teacher ratio, there is a need to hire more than 50000 teachers across the state. As a result of dismissal of 3581 guest teachers, now there is a dearth of teachers in the state to teach Mathematics, Hindi, and Social Science. The struggle of guest teachers is continuing. Lok Raj Sangathan supports the just demands and struggle of the guest teachers to restore the services of dismissed teachers and make them permanent.
