The events of 6th December 1992 and the violence that followed targeting innocent Muslim and other people in Mumbai and other parts of the country, continues to haunt the country – not as a memory of the past, but as a painful reality that has been repeated over and over again – in Gujarat 2002, in Muzaffarnagar 2012, as well as in Trilokpuri and Bawana and other parts of Delhi in 2014, in the episodes of violence against one section of the peoplein Odisha and Assam. The continued denial of justice for the victims of such violence including the genocide of Sikhs in 1984 clearly shows that we cannot expect the organs of the state to punish the perpetrators of such monstrous crimes.
The entire operation to demolish Babri Masjid was a carefully planned act of the Indian ruling establishment. The executive, legislature and judiciary were fully involved in the demolition. Various political parties and other organizations of the ruling elite were entrusted with the task of inflaming passions amongst the people, dividing them on religious lines, to set the stage for the demolition.
The rulers and their State deliberately spread the monstrous lie that "people wanted to demolish the historical mosque". The fact however was that the people of our country, irrespective of their religious beliefs, were horrified at this terrible crime and totally opposed to it.
The demolition of Babri Masjid revealed that it is not the people but the Indian state which is communal. Far from fulfilling the duty of ensuring security and prosperity for the people, the State itself is guilty of organizing communal pogroms and massacres. State terrorism, the targeting of this or that community for genocidal massacres, has remained a preferred weapon of those in power and their State to destroy the unity of our people since the rule of the British crown was established in India.
Another big lie that is propagated by the ideologues of the ruling elites is that only some parties and organizations are communal, and that the aim of the struggle must be to replace one such set of parties with another in power. However, our experience shows that no matter which party or alliance is in power, the guilty of these crimes are never punished. Therefore, it is clear that such propaganda tries to obscure the communal nature of Indian state and serves to blunt the struggle of the people to rid the curse of massacres in the name of religion from our land.
We call on all justice-loving people to come together, irrespective of religion, language, caste, racial, regional and other differences and resolve to continue to fight till the guilty are punished. Let us fight for radical political reforms that will truly empower our people and build a modern and civilized India. Let us fight for legislation and mechanisms to prevent state-organised communal violence in future.
Punish the Perpetrators of the Babri Masjid Demolition!
Unite Against Communal Hate-Mongering and Violence,
State Terror and for Rebuilding a Just Society!
An attack on one is an attack on all!
