“Congress -BIP ka utaaro Taj, Lao Mazdoor-Kisan ka Raj” (Overthrow Congress-BJP, Bring Workers and Peasants to Power), was the clarion call of the Santosh Kumar, who has been selected by the people of the Okhla constituency as people’s candidate for the Delhi Assembly elections. The call captures the aspirations of the people, who have been hood-winked time and again by these parties of the rich. “Rajkiya Aatankwaad ko Mitana Hai, Lok Raj basana hai” (Defeat State Terrorrism, Establish Lok Raj), “Rajkiya Aatankwaad ka ek ilaaj, Lok Raj, LoK Raj” (There is only one solution to State Terrorism, Lok Raj, Lok Raj) slogans reverberated through the Batla House Area in the constituency, early morning as people were rushing to their work places.
It is noteworthy that this area came to center of debate when three young boys were murdered in cold blood in fake encounter by the special branch of Delhi Police. The area adjacent to the renowned Jamia Milia Islamia University, has been target of attack by the State and the media ever since, which has been spewing venom against the Muslim community. The local people very well know the truth and irrespective of their religious persuasion expose the States lie.
The campaign began at 7.30 am at the Batla House Square with activists and working professional from surrounding areas joining. Later the campaign traversed to the junction point at Jamia-Kalindi Kunj Road, through which lakhs of working people and students commute to all corners of the state and beyond. People avidly read the leaflets as they boarded vehicle which carry to their destination. Some young school boys came forward to help the activists in distributing the leaflets.
Thousands of leaflets with credential of the candidate and manifesto as his commitments to the people of the constituency were distributed to people rushing to their workplace. Born in a working class family Santosh Kumar earns his living as a Web Designer and DTP Professional and is well known as working class leader, who has been at the forefront of struggle for rights of the youth, workers and women, against state terrorism, state organized communal violence. He has lead number of struggle for demanding Rs. 15000/- as minimum wages to the workers, ensuring that those responsible for genocide of Sikh in 1984, massacre of Muslim in 1992 and 2002, and attacks on people of various regions are punished. He has actively supported the struggle Maruti workers and Air India Pilots and employee. He declared that “everybody who works for a living is a worker – be it factory labourer, computer programmer, doctor, engineer or a pilot. Working Class youth should become leaders, and not remain flag carriers and tails of the bourgeoisie parties like Congress and BJP.“
He is being supported by Mazdoor Ekta Committee, Lok Raj Sangathan, Communist Ghadar Party of India, Purogami Mahila Sangathan, Hind Naujawaan Ekta Sabha, and many other people’s organizations.
