Baburao Bapuji Taware, a founder member of Lok Raj Sangathan (LRS), who remained steadfast to the aims and the programs of LRS and worked for its realization till his last breath, passed away on July 6, 2011. Shri. Taware was a committed social activist and the founder of Sri Sant Garoba Shikshan Sansathan in Pune.
He was 78 years old, when he left us and we convey our heartfelt condolences to Mrs Kiran Taware, their three daughters and all the members of the entire Taware family.
Shri. Taware was born on April 7, 1933, in a village in Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra, and had his initial schooling in the village. He came to Pune in the late sixties for higher education. He completed two Masters Degrees, namely, in Philosophy as well as in Political Science and also had an M. Ed from Pune University.
Following a brief stint as a teacher in the New English School, Pune, Shri. Taware, established his own educational institution, called Sri Sant Garoba Shikshan Sansathan in 1972. From its modest beginnings, the school soon grew in stature and today it boasts of 1100 students from relatively disadvantaged families. Shri Taware’s lifelong passion was in educating and mentoring children from disadvantaged families. He was also known and loved because he was a sincere political activist committed to the Nav Nirman of India. He was active in several other social organizations but bringing lok raj was his mission in life. Right from its first national convention in Pune in May 1998, where the Committee for People’s Empowerment and other like-minded activists came together to create Lok Raj Sangathan, Mr Taware worked for LRS till his last breath.
He was proud of his association as a founder member of Lok Raj Sangathan – an All India Political Organization that affirms the sovereignty of the Indian people and works towards the realization of this goal in practice. Shri Taware not only had the conviction but also the confidence in our people and he would assert in his speeches that Indian people will one day take political power in their hands and build an India of their dreams – an India free from poverty, deprivation, oppression, exploitation, injustice and terror of all kinds. He devoted his entire life in fighting injustice in courts as well as outside courts using various forms including protest marches on the streets.
As part of his missionary zeal to popularize the program of Lok Raj, he also fought elections for representing the people in the Maharashtra assembly.
We salute his commitment, the passion and courage of Baburao Taware in the defense of people’s democratic rights and for his contributions to the cause of Navnirman of India, to establish Lok Raj in our country. We shall take the work of Lok Raj Sangathan forward and complete the unfinished task in front of us. This would indeed be a fitting tribute to the memory of Shri. Taware.
