Public Meeting held to Condemn attack on Shri Prashant Bhushan and in defense of the Right to Conscience

A successful public meeting was organsied in New Delhi on 14 October 2011 by Lok Raj Sangathan to condemn the attack on Shri Prashant Bhushan and in defense of the right to conscience. Dozens of organisations, who spoke on the occasion, unanimously condemned the dastardly attack on Shri Prashant Bhushan for expressing his views on situation in Kashmir.

Addressing the meeting Shri Shanti Bhushan congratulated Lok Raj Sangathan for starting the debate on the important topic of the right to conscience. He said that the issue of Kashmir has been lest festering and is leading to deterioration of the situation. One may or may not agree with Prashant’s view on the subject but it is very important to recognize the right to speak about the one’s views on situation prevailing in our country. He said in the ancient time the view was prevalent that the Earth was flat. The people who could see that the Earth had to be round were laughed at. Similarly, today Kashmiri people are suffering and the attitude that "anyone who talks of the suffering and rights of the Kashmiri people is anti-national" does not help to understand the situation and is a roadblock in the resolution of the problems.
