The All India Committee of the Lok Raj Sangathan resolutely condemns the brutal commando style operation of Israel against a sea borne convoy carrying humanitarian aid to the residents of occupied Gaza strip.
Gaza strip has been facing an economic blockade by Israel that has now been in place for many years, which the United Nations Security Council has described the blockade as `collective punishment’ of the population of Gaza. In the latest attack several innocent lives have been lost and it has been noted that the humanitarian workers on board the vessels were civilians from several countries and did not possess any armaments or ammunition. Israel has defended the action saying that this was in self-defence and that any humanitarian aid could only be sent through those channels that it keeps open. Governments of several countries across the world have condemned these actions and ambassadors have been summoned to explain these actions.
The AICC calls upon the Government of India to take immediate action against Israel and to condemn these actions in no uncertain terms. The people of India have always considered the people of the region to be their fraternal people and will not brook such attacks on their well-wishers. Excuses such as improving international ties, economic ties and the like with Israel are not acceptable to the Indian people. The actions of the Government of India must be in consonance with the wishes of the people of India.
