LRSlogo.gifThe 2nd plenary meeting of the All India Council of the Lok Raj Sangathan was held in Mumbai on April 23, 2006. Thirty-seven people participated in the deliberations of the AIC.

The meeting was chaired by Justice H Suresh, President of the Lok Raj Sangathan. After approving the minutes of the previous plenum of the AIC held on January 24, 2006, the AIC viewed the video footage of the March 1-2 protest actions against US President Bush’s visit, as well as other activities of the Lok Raj Sangathan in the past three months.

The report of activities of the Lok Raj Sangathan was presented by the Convenor, Prakash Rao; it was discussed and unanimously adopted by the Council.

The AIC approved the regular quarterly publication of the report of activities of the LRS, entitled PROGRESS REPORT, a sample of which was tabled at the plenum. It was agreed that the PROGRESS REPORT would be available for downloading from the website of the Lok Raj Sangathan. It was agreed that we should try to bring out the Hindi version of the quarterly report as well, and that the branches of the Lok Raj Sangathan in different areas should organise to ensure that the hard copy of the report is available to all members and is used to inform potential new members of the work of the organisation.

Prakash Rao then led the discussion on the political situation in India and internationally. He pointed out that the ruling clique in India is going ahead full steam on the course of transforming India into a world class imperialist power, and that it remains committed to liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation.  He analysed the lessons from the struggles the people have been waging all over India , of which LRS has been an integral part. Everything pointed to the necessity for uniting all the fighting forces, the workers and peasants and shopkeepers and all the marginalised people in a united front around a program for the democratic renewal of India , in which political power will be truly in the hands of the people. There was vigorous discussion in the AIC that the situation is pointing to the necessity of building the Lok Raj Sangathan as that organisation of the people which will enable them to unite on a common program for political power in their own hands.

The AIC adopted the draft Constitution of the Lok Raj Sangathan.

The AIC approved the proposal that the resolution adopted at a public meeting organised by LRS in Delhi on the Iran developments, be communicated to all members of parliament, soon as parliament reconvenes on May 13, 2006.

The AIC called upon the regional councils of LRS in different areas to hold public meetings in their areas soon after the assembly elections.

The AIC approved in principle a proposal from young members from Mumbai that LRS website have a place for chatting and recruiting members through the Web. The WEB group of the AIC has been charged with the responsibility of working out the feasibility and modalities.

The AIC approved the Finance Policy note presented by the treasurer, Ms Uma Seth.

The next meeting of the AIC of LRS shall be held in Mumbai on July 23, 2006.
