Government denies copies of late President Shri K.R. Narayanan’s letter to the then Prime Minister Vajpayee in the wake of the genocide in Gujarat in 2002 under the RTI Act
A letter dated 20.01.2006 addresed to the Public Information Officer in the Office of the President signed by Mr TS Sankaran was sent requesting for the copies of the letter sent by late President K.R. Narayanan to the then Prime Minister Vajpayee in the wak of the genocide in Gujarat in 2002, under the provisions of the RTI Act, 2005.
A letter dated March 7, 2006 was received in reply from Harjot Kaur, Deputy Secreatry and Central Public Infomation Officer, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Dept of Personnel and Training, New Delhi .
The letter pointed out that “in terms of Section 8(1) (a) of the Right to Information Act, 2005, the information asked for by you, the disclosure of which would prejudicially affect the sovereignty and integrity of India, the security, strategic, scientific or economic interests of the State, etc.”.
