An Epitaph is being written for Neo-liberalism in the “advanced countries.” It has been recognised that neoliberal policies are a disaster. What are the ‘achievements’ of such policies? In 30 years, liberalisation produced just € 1.3 trillion, or barely twice the total U.S. and European bank bailouts. The financial sectors which form the backbone of the system are not putting the money to any productive use.
There have been reports in the media of the deaths of two fishermen at the hands of the Sri Lankan Navy, after they strayed into the waters of Sri Lanka in January 2011. These actions of the Sri Lankan Navy must be condemned in no uncertain terms. The Government of India, on the other hand, has asked for details of the events and has not come out strongly against these atrocities.
The Union Law Ministry and Election Commission (EC) have been holding public meetings in different regions since last year. Three such meetings have taken place in Bhopal, Kolkata and Mumbai and five more are planned before the Law Ministry is expected to propose legislative action.

Despite India being considered as a global power, how can we have any self respect as a country if majority of our people are unable to afford two square meals a day?
The Government propaganda machinery wanted us to believe that the Budget for the ‘fiscal’ 2010-11 would be yet another earth-shaking event and chart the ‘road-map’ for unbelievable prosperity for every single individual in the country.
