BEST workers oppose privatization drive : Privatization of transport undertakings is anti-people!

ThumbnailBrihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) is one of the world’s largest metro transport corporation. It is managed by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and caters to the needs of more than 30 lakh commuters every day. On 12th February 2018, the BEST management committee announced its decision to hire 200 mini non-AC buses, 200 mini-AC buses and 50 midi-buses on wet lease from private contractors. Under this type of arrangement, buses are leased from private contractors along with driver and are also maintained by the contractor.

ThumbnailIt was indeed a happy and proud moment for the IT professionals of Maharashtra when on 13th January 2018, in a press conference it was declared that their union Forum for I.T. Employees (FITE) has been registered as a union in Maharashtra. Consistent and brave efforts of several IT professionals from Pune over the last six months beginning with a successful meeting organized by FITE and the Maharashtra Council of Lok Raj Sangathan on 8th July 2017 in Pune, finally culminated in getting the union registered.

Ratnagiri is a picturesque district on Thumbnailthe West coast of Maharashtra famous for its greenery and rich crop of the world famous Hapus (Alphonso) mango and cashew nuts. In 1997, the Maharashtra government had declared the Konkan region which includes Ratnagiri district as ecologically sensitive.

ThumbnailIn December 2017, Verizon Data Services India threw out almost 1000 IT professionals. In the last 6 months as more and more IT companies started throwing out its employees, the employees also started raising their voices individually and also by joining some Union or the other. Employees also started using legal means to challenge the illegal terminations. One employee who was sacked from Tech Mahindra recorded his conversation with the HR executive which became viral exposing the manner and reasons for sacking IT professionals. That forced Anand Mahindra, the chieftain of Tech Mahindra to publically apologize. But corporate houses are well experienced to handle such opposition, especially when the employees are not organized.

ThumbnailOn 27th October 2017, for the first time, in a path-breaking meeting, various Railway worker unions and passenger associations came together in Mumbai and denounced the Railway administration’s and Railway Ministry’s apathy towards the safety of railway passengers and workers.

The initiative taken by Lok Raj Sangathan and Kamgar Ekta Committee in association with the All India Guards’ Council got a very good response.

Thumbnail२७ अक्टूबर २०१७ को मुंबई में एक ऐतिहासिक मीटिंग हुई. इस मीटिंग में रेल मजदूरों के कई यूनियन और रेल यात्रियों के कई संगठन एक साथ आये और रेल यात्रियों और रेल मजदूरों की सुरक्षा के प्रति रेल प्रशासन और रेल मंत्रालय के उदासीनता की जमकर निंदा की.

लोक राज संगठन द्वारा व मज़दूर एकता चलवल तथा आल इंडिया गार्ड्स कौंसिल के साथ मिलकर ली गयी इस पहल को रेल यात्रियों और रेल मजदूरों के संगठनों से बहुत अच्छी प्रतिक्रिया मिली.

रेल प्रशासन एवं मंत्रियों को हमारी जिंदगी खतरे में डालने का कोई हक नहीं है! आइये सुरक्षित रेल यात्रा के लिए एकजूट हो जाएं!

It is a matter of great concern to all of us that instead of becoming safer and more comfortable, travel on the Indian Railways is becoming ever more dangerous and distressing.

Who is responsible for this state of affairs and what can we the citizens do?
