ECI’s credibility undermined

Submitted by admin on Wed, 2017-10-25 12:22

ThumbnailThe plenary mandate of the ECI requires it to stay vigilant and autonomous. It must also come down heavily on parties and candidates who are turning our democracy into a farce.

According to former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) SY Quraishi, by not declaring the election schedule of Gujarat along with that for Himachal Pradesh, the ECI has created a "ground of suspicion" as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Gujarat on October 16 to address a rally wherein he is likely to shower 'goodies' on the state's voters.

ThumbnailAt the outset, I compliment the organisers of this Convention. This large gathering reflects how LRS has grown, and the presence of so many youngsters shows how we have developed and the need to fight for true democracy.

Today we have a democracy that reflects that even after 70 years, 77 per cent of the people are poor, and large numbers have no health care, no education. Our Constitution says that it is for the people, but what is the reality? Can we call the current system a real democracy?

The 7th All India Convention of Lok Raj Sangathan noted with concern the complete marginalization of people in the present political system. This Convention reaffirms that only by carrying out the necessary changes to ensure that sovereignty actually vests in the people, can the people of our country solve all the problems facing Indian society.

On possible visit of US President

It has been reported that US President Trump will be visiting India in the near future. This 7th All-India convention of Lok Raj Sangathan resolves that we will organise with all people and organisations fighting for people's right and against terrorism to unitedly oppose the visit of the head of a State that is the source of terror globally, that blatantly violates the sovereignty of the counties and organises war and destruction against the people of the world.
