“We shall unitedly work to eliminate Railway accidents!” declare Railway passengers and Railway workers

On 27th October 2017, for the first time, in a path-breaking meeting, various Railway worker unions and passenger associations came together in Mumbai and denounced the Railway administration’s and Railway Ministry’s apathy towards the safety of railway passengers and workers.

The initiative taken by Lok Raj Sangathan and Kamgar Ekta Committee in association with the All India Guards’ Council got a very good response, as a result of which India Guards Council(AIGC), All India Loco Running Staff Association(AILRSA), All India Station Masters Association(AISMA), All India Railway Track Maintainers Union, All India Ticket Checking Staff Organisation, All India Traffic Controller Association, All India Railway Employees Union, Lok Raj Sangathan (LRS), Kamgar Ekta Committee (KEC), Spark - Voice of Youth, Purogami Mahila Sangathan, Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors(MARD), Air India Service Engineers Association, All Ladhaku Majdoor Union, National Federation of Postal Employee, Communist Ghadar Party of India, Mumbai Suburban Railway Passengers Association, Thane Railway Pravasi Sangathan, All India Rail Yarti Parishad, Madhya Nagri Railway Pravasi Sangh, Tejaswani Mahila Pravasi Sanghatan, Mumbai Rail Pravasi Sangh, Kalyan-Kasara Passenger Welfare Association, Railway Passenger Janhit Sangharsh Manch Titwala, Adhunik Bharat Parivar jointly organized a seminar on the subject “Increasing Railway Accidents – Causes and Solution”.

The meeting unanimously passed the following resolution:

This meeting held on 27th October 2017 in Dhuru Hall Mumbai, organized by various Railway Workers’ Unions, Railway Passenger Associations and other people’s organizations, declares that safe and comfortable rail journey is the right of all Indian citizens and one of the prime responsibilities of the Indian Government.

This meeting calls upon the Railway administration and Central Government

  • To give the highest priority to passenger safety while deciding the expenditure on railways
  • To immediately allocate all the necessary resources to upgrade the entire railway infrastructure towards ensuring safety of passengers and railway workers
  • To stop contractualization of various railway jobs
  • To immediately fill up all the vacancies in Indian Railways with permanent workmen and women and to ensure safe working conditions for the railway workers

This meeting also resolves that we shall create the necessary mechanism and ensure accountability of the highest railway authorities and the Railway Minister for every railway accident.

This meeting also resolves that Railway Workers’ organizations, Railway Passenger Associations, and people’s organizations will jointly work towards ensuring safety and comfort for railway passengers and safe working conditions for railway workers.”
