Seventh All India Convention of Lok Raj Sangathan Concluded Successfully

The 7th All India Convention of Lok Raj Sangathan was successfully concluded on 2nd October 2017 in Delhi. Shri S. Raghavan, the President of LRS welcomed the participants in the Convention – members of LRS and other organisations who work with Lok Raj Sangathan. Justice Hosbet Suresh, Honorary Chairperson of LRS presided over the proceedings. The President then announced the dissolution of the present All-India Council and tabled the agenda for approval by the Convention.

 

Protests and Popular Movements in Himachal Pradesh

 The Government of Himachal Pradesh has started a campaign of demolishing houses of the landless and poor who reside in the forest Land - mostly common land of the villages which was given to the forest for planting trees. Forest department (FD) a tool of the colonial past and enslavement, has claimed its right over the people’s common land and behaves in the most dictatorial and fascist way to oppress, harass and even rape poor innocent farmers, who depend for their livelihoods on the forests, like grazing, fodder and fuel, and collection of herbs and tubers for food.

No WTO deal without people’s consent!

Ever since the Congress government assumed power after the elections, several statements are being made that India is now ready for taking the Doha Round of negotiations further. It is not clear whether the “India” includes its millions of workers and peasants whose livelihood and fortunes are very much linked to the WTO negotiations. Also, it is not clear why the reservations that the Indian government had earlier have now vanished and what actually is the current stand of the Indian government.
