LRS Campaign for Rights in Full Swing!

LRS samiti of Sanjay Colony as part of Lok Raj Sangathan's campaign for Rights sent letters to the Chief Minister of Delhi about the state of buses, street lights, water, toilets and health care in the Ohkla area of New Delhi in May 2016. We reproduce these documents below.

The campaign has been very successful and has produced positive victories for the people of unauthorised colonies

2 सितंबर को लोक राज संगठन के सर्व हिन्द उपाध्यक्ष श्री हनुमान प्रसाद शर्मा ने राजस्थान के लोगों और किसानों की समस्याओं को लेकर एक ज्ञापन उपखंड अधिकारी नोहर (राजस्थान) के माध्यम से प्रधानमंत्री को भेजा। इसी दिन मजदूर वर्ग की सर्व हिन्द हड़ताल के अवसर पर लोक राज संगठन की नोहर परिषद और मजदूर एकता कमेटी नोहर ने संयुक्त रूप से मांग पत्र तैयार किया और हड़ताल के समर्थन में उपखंड अधिकारी को ज्ञापन सौंपा और हड़ताल में भाग लिया।

घर-घर में दिल्ली जल बोर्ड का कनेक्शन लगाकर पानी दिया जाये!

पुर्नवास कालोनी मदनपुर खादर में 28 अगस्त, 2016 को पीने के पानी की मांग को लेकर एक दिवसीय धरना दिया गया। धरने को कालोनी के जलेबी चैक पर किया गया, जिसमें सैंकड़ों लोगों ने हिस्सा लिया।

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Shaneen Bagh organised a “Talk on Peaceful Society with Human Value” in Jasola Vihar, New Delhi on 4 September 2016. S Raghavan, President of Lok Raj Sangathan was invited as the Chief Guest, and the meeting was presided by Mohamad Jafar, Member, Central Advisory Council, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.

Activists of Lok Raj Sangathan in Delhi and the NCR organised a meeting on August 21, to review the work in the area over the last month and to plan ahead. The meeting was attended by active members of the Lok Raj Samitis of various residential colonies – Sanjay Colony in Okhla, Madanpur Khadar, Jasola, Sangam Vihar, Shashi Garden in East Delhi, and others. The majority of the participants were youth, young women and men.

In a Dharana organised by Lok Raj Sangathan on 27th July 2016 at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, residents including students of various jhuggi-jhopari, unauthorised slum and resettlement colonies came in  their hundreds despite pouring rains to place their demand that DJB must give them piped water supply connection at their homes.

The Kashmir death toll has been increasing day by day and stands at 49 on 25th July. More than 5000 people have been injured in the protest that has gone on continuously for many days without let up. Curfew continues in Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama districts while restrictions will continue in parts of Srinagar, Kupwara, Sopore and Baramulla.

On 8th July, the Supreme Court delivered an interim judgement in connection with a 2012 petition filed by families of the victims of fake encounters in Manipur. Calling themselves the Extra Judicial Execution Victim Families Association, they petitioned the Supreme Court four years ago seeking a detailed investigation into 1,528 documented cases of fake encounters in the state. So far, a court-appointed commission led by Justice Santosh Hegde has confirmed 15 cases to have indeed been fake encounters carried out by the armed forces.
