Joint protest against bus fare hike in Chennai

ThumbnailCondemning the unjustified increase in bus fare hike in Tamilnadu, a joint demonstration was held on January 30 at Valluvar Kottam under the banner of Nermai Ani. The demonstration was organised under the initiative of Desiya Makkal Sakti Katchi, one of the constituents of Nermai Ani. Other participants included Makkal Nal vazhvu Katchi, Valamaana Thamizhagam Katchi, Gandhiya Samadharma Iyakkam, Lok Raj Sangathan, unorganized workers union and others.

Social democratic Party of India held a militant demonstration on 6th of December to condemn the demolition of Babri Masjid at Ayodhya 25 years back and demand justice. Besides SDPI, various political parties and organizations including Makkalatchi Iyakkam (Lok Raj Sangathan) took part in this demonstration held at Tambaram in Chennai. Hundreds of people participated in this demonstration.

Tamilnadu: Nurses in government health centers fight for permanency

Image removed.Over 1500 contract nurses working in government run health centers of Tamilnadu went on an indefinite hunger strike at DMS complex, Thenampet, Chennai starting on 29th of January, 2016. They are demanding regularization of their work. Earlier, both in September 2015 and November 2015, nurses had launched agitations around this same demand. Each time, the authorities, after promising to fulfil the demands of the nurses, have betrayed their promises.This is the background in which nurses have been forced to come from all over Tamilnadu to Chennai for yet another agitation.
