8th March – Saath March!

On 8th March, over a thousand strong marched from Rajiv Chowk in the capital to Jantar Mantar. Banners fluttered and the air was filled with many slogans; some of which were:

“We want Azadi – from exploitation, from Capitalism, from repression and oppression!”
“Women’s emancipation means dignity for men!”
“Attack on women is attack on society!”
“Repeal AFPSA, and other black laws such as UAPA!”

March 5 marks the 50th anniversary of the bombing of Aizawl – the first air raid by the Indian Air Force on civilian territory within the country. This is as good a time as any to go beyond just questioning the morality of the bombing, or the complexities that led to it. It’s time to understand its legacy.

Loj Raj Samiti formed in Sangam Vihar: Unite in defence of Rights!!

On 21 February 2016, amidst great enthusiasm, the residents of Sangam Vihar formed Lok Raj Samiti in their area to organise and lead the struggle in defence of their rights. Women and youth participated in the meeting in large numbers.

A presidium was formed for conducting the meeting which included Lokesh Kumar, member AIC of LRS, local residents Sunil Kumar, Morya ji, Bajrang Singh and Rajan, who were greeted by people. Lalit Kumar of Lok Raj Sangathan conducted the meeting.

Joint Press Meeting held by Youth Against Communalism for JNU and Rohit Vemula

In a press meeting organised on 28th February, 2016, Youth Against Communalism have condemned the lies being spread about JNU and HCU and are demanding the withdrawal of sedition cases against the JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar and other JNU students.

Protest programmes are being organised across the country between 27 February and 23 March 2016 along with conventions and protest meetings.

February 22, 2016: Stand up in defence of the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University!

Over the past ten days, we have watched with increasing concern, a systematic whipping up of passions targeted against student activists of Jawaharlal Nehru University. Six students of the University have been charged with sedition. The Union Home Minister and other ministers of the BJP Government, the Delhi Police Chief, and some of the main television channels have cynically collaborated to portray these students as "terrorists", agents of Pakistan, anti-nationals, and the worst kind of criminals.
